This is a fairy tale. Anyone with a job couldn't even do it even if it was real. You could take Melatonin when you get up to counter the cortisol, but there would usually NOT be much, if any, if you slept 6 hrs or more. Bump it, drink the coffee. If cortisol in the morning is a thing, it's very UNLIKELY to be an issue for weight loss either way.
The right time to take melatonin is when you wake early morning (O dark thirty), to go pee, NOT before going to bed. Cortisol is what woke you up, and Melatonin is the antidote, if you can't go 3 hrs of fasting before bed..

I only drink decaf. Will this still work?

The lipolytic momentum of a fast is inextricably linked to progressive hypoinsulinemia. As systemic insulin falls, the physiological inhibition of adipocyte lipolysis is lifted, transitioning the body from an energy-storage to an energy-mobilization paradigm.

What about those of us that hit the gym before the sun comes up? I'm convinced I have to have my pre-workout before I even see a weight. Wake up -> pre-workout -> BM -> gym, then I wait an hour or so for my first cup of coffee. But by then, the damage is done?
